NOTE RE:  Potential audits of your Continuing Education certificates...

The M.C.C.A. is careful to abide by all of the state Board of Chiropractic's requirements to ensure that attendees completing the annual M.C.C.A. seminar meet the necessary requirements.  Since the Board had made changes to the Continuing Education (C.E.) requirements after our 2019 attendance certificates were already distributed we submitted correspondence to the state Board for use by the Audit Committee.

Please note that we annually submit documentation to the state Board for additional instructors/courses as back-ups in the event of some speaker's potential inability to present at the last minute.  Since the certificates of attendance for the 2019 seminar did not specifically list which courses were taken and the new rules do not allow duplication of courses (see C.E. Info tab on this website for further details on this matter) we submitted a detailed letter to the Board so the Audit Committee would know which specific courses were actually taken by the attendees.  The letter appears below.  Mr. Weston MacIntosh of the state of Michigan confirmed that the letter was received and would be delivered to the Audit Committee accordingly.  All certificates issued for our 2020 seminar gave a detailed specific list of the course title, instructor's name, number of hours attended, and which specific special topic may have been covered (physical measures, etc.)  All 2021 and future certificates will list each course completed by the attendee with this specific detail as well.

RE: Approved 2019 Course #239190005 'Chiropractic Update 2019' specific actual course detail for your future audit/review of attendee 's certificates

To the Michigan Board of Chiropractic:

This correspondence is provided to give detailed information about last year' s approved continuing education program entitled 'Chiropractic Update 2019' course approval number 239190005. I am providing the specific detail as to the actual program that was presented. You had approved multiple topics and speakers in the application and below I am providing the precise list of actual speakers, course title, and specific required courses. You will need this specific information when you review the certificates of attendees you may audit for their continuing education hours in light of the new rules on approved continuing education which may affect certain licensees. At the time the 2019 application was submitted we were not aware of the rules change to come and you had approved our attendee certificate as provided to you with the application packet. The certificates of attendance do not list the more specific detail which is provided here for your convenience.

The certificate for our 2020 program will list all of the specific information you will need to see that the entire program is different and unique from the prior year's continuing education program. All necessary steps have been taken to provide a different program this coming November so all attendees continuing education requirements are approved if they attended last year's program if they also happen to attend this coming Fall's program. This information was also detailed in the 2020 application for course approval.

The 2019 continuing education 15-hour program included the following:

Diagnostic Imaging — Brian J. Sabb, D.O. — Performance and ordering of tests (4 hours)

Holistic cardiovascular care in Chiropractic — Joel Kahn, M.D. — (1 hour)

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy & Chiropractic Jonathan Cromwell, D.C.  Physical measures (2 hours)

Professional Boundaries — Martin J. Brown, D.C. — Sexual Boundaries (1 hour)

Professional Ethics with risk management Martin J. Brown, .C. Ethics (1 hour)

Chiropractic management of cephalgia & thoracic pain Timothy Grondin, D.C.  Pain and symptom management (2 hours)

Chiropractic Functional Neurology Michael Husmillo, D.C. -- technique (2 hours)

Treatment options for lower back pain — Mohamad Saleh, D.C., M.D. -— Pain and symptom management (2 hours)

The 2020 certificate of attendance will provide a specific list of each lecture that the attendee completed so verification of the uniqueness of the programs taken within each two year license renewal period is verified. To ensure compliance, the Macomb County Chiropractic Association (M.C.C.A.) is providing continuing education so each Doctor of Chiropractic studies a variety of appropriate topics to avoid any programs 'identical or substantially identical' to programs already taken during the licensure cycle. The M.C.C.A. is taking careful efforts to meet all requirements of our Board's directives to ensure compliance by attendees. The M.C.C.A. recognizes that no more than 12 credit hours of continuing education shall be earned in a 24-hour period and our program also complies accordingly. The 2019 program and the 2020 program are distinctive to ensure that licensees who might attend both conferences will meet the new requirements.

Please be welcome to contact me if you require any further information regarding this important matter. We want to ensure that any future continuing education certificate audits of attendees are completed without any confusion or misunderstanding. Attendees of both of these programs do meet all requirements.  Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Martin J. Brown, D.C.

President,

Macomb County Chiropractic Association
